Hearing loss on my right ear after shower and cleaning with cotton buds. Was very worried and saw Dr Wei Cen for the first time. Experience was very pleasant, good and reassuring. From the reception to the Doctor, it was all friendly and professional! Everyone knows what they were doing and in next to no time I was in the treatment room having my hearing treated. The procedure was quick, zero discomfort and every steps explained in detail so that I could understand clearly what needs and will be done. Doctor Wei Cen was really good and I was out within 30 minutes! All problems resolved and surprisingly the costs was really affordable and fair. Would strongly recommend to everyone with hearing issues. Thanks Dr Wei Cen!

Wei Cin was very thorough in his testing of my hearing. He also gave me helpful tips on living with tinnitus. He recommended aids which I have and I find they seem to override the noise of the tinnitus. I’m very glad I made the effort to go all the way to Canterbury from Oak Park. Wei Cin was excellent and I look forward to ongoing monitoring.

I recently had a professional ear wax removal at NeuroHearing and couldn't be happier with the experience. From the moment I arrived, Weicen was prompt, friendly, and completely professional. I was impressed with how thoroughly Weicen explained everything — walking me through the procedure step by step, outlining the three wax removal options available, and clearly explaining why he recommended the approach he did. Highly recommend.

Introduction
When it comes to hearing loss, misinformation is everywhere. Many people delay seeking help because of myths and misconceptions that prevent them from understanding the importance of addressing their hearing health early. At NeuroHearing, we believe education is key to making informed decisions about your hearing care.

In this blog, we’ll debunk the top myths about hearing loss and explain why taking action can improve not only your hearing but also your overall quality of life.

1. Myth: Hearing Loss Only Affects Older Adults

Fact: While age-related hearing loss is common, hearing loss can affect people of all ages.
Exposure to loud noise, certain medical conditions, and even genetics can lead to hearing loss in younger adults and children. Residents in busy areas like Richmond or Prahran who work in noisy environments are particularly at risk.

Proactive care, including regular hearing tests, can help detect issues early and prevent further damage.

2. Myth: Hearing Loss Isn’t a Big Deal

Fact: Hearing loss has far-reaching effects on emotional, cognitive, and social well-being.
Untreated hearing loss can lead to:

    • Social Isolation: Struggling to follow conversations in noisy settings like a café in Hawthorn can make people withdraw from social activities.

    • Cognitive Decline: Research shows that untreated hearing loss increases the risk of memory loss and dementia.

    • Emotional Strain: Frustration and embarrassment often accompany untreated hearing issues, affecting confidence and relationships.

Addressing hearing loss early can improve quality of life and prevent these challenges.

3. Myth: Hearing Aids Are Bulky and Obvious

Fact: Modern hearing aids are sleek, discreet, and packed with advanced technology.
Gone are the days of large, cumbersome devices. Today’s hearing aids are designed to fit seamlessly into your lifestyle and some can even connect to smartphones for added convenience.

At NeuroHearing, we offer hearing aid fitting and support for residents in suburbs like Kew, Glen Iris, and Malvern East, ensuring you find the perfect solution.

4. Myth: You’ll Know When You Have Hearing Loss

Fact: Hearing loss often develops gradually, making it difficult to notice.
Many people adapt to hearing challenges without realizing how much they’re missing. Signs of hearing loss include:

    • Frequently asking people to repeat themselves

    • Difficulty hearing in noisy environments like South Yarra or Camberwell

    • Turning up the TV volume louder than others prefer

A professional hearing test can identify hearing loss early, even if you don’t notice it yourself.

5. Myth: Hearing Loss Can’t Be Treated

Fact: Most cases of hearing loss can be managed effectively with the right care.
From hearing aids to lifestyle adjustments, there are plenty of options to improve hearing and enhance quality of life. At NeuroHearing, we provide personalized care, including in-home hearing tests and tinnitus management, for residents across Box Hill, Ashburton, and Brighton.

6. Myth: Hearing Tests Are Time-Consuming and Inconvenient

Fact: We know life gets busy, and finding time for a hearing test isn’t always easy. Clinic visits can take hours, with waiting times and follow-up appointments that disrupt your day.
At NeuroHearing, we make it simple. Our hearing tests are quick, accurate, and designed to fit your schedule — so you can take care of your hearing without the hassle.
